WEBSITE PLANNING
Prepare a Domain Account Handover Checklist
Know who controls the domain, how renewal is handled and which access must be preserved when website providers change.
Record ownership and responsibility
Identify the registrar, the business owner responsible for the account and the renewal contact. Record the domain names used for the website and email. Keep credentials in an appropriate secure system, not in a project brief or general inquiry form. A developer knowing the domain name does not mean the business controls the account.
Map the dependencies
List services using the domain, including business email, the website and any third-party verification. Ask the current provider for the relevant configuration and handover process. Changing the website should not accidentally remove records used by email or another business tool.
Agree on the transition
Confirm who makes changes, when they happen and how the previous working configuration can be recovered. Avoid cancellation before replacement services and ownership are verified. Use an authorized access process rather than sharing passwords casually. A handover checklist should leave the business able to manage renewal and future provider changes with clear responsibilities.
Apply this to your business
Write down the current situation, the decision you need to make and the person who can confirm the facts. North Front Digital can discuss a scoped review through our relevant service overview. When you request a quote, include your website address if you have one and the customer task you want to improve. Deliverables, access, timing and price are confirmed in writing before work begins.
