WEBSITE PLANNING
Protect Business Email During a Website Change
Include email dependencies in the website handover so a design launch does not accidentally interrupt business communication.
Identify the email service separately
Record which provider handles business email and who administers it. The domain registrar, website host and email provider may be different services. Do not assume moving the website requires moving email, or that the new website provider automatically controls the inboxes.
Document the change boundary
Ask the developer which domain settings need to change and which must remain intact for email and other services. Have the legitimate account owner confirm access through supported controls. Keep configuration details in the project record without exposing passwords or recovery information. Avoid replacing an entire configuration with a generic template.
Agree on verification
Plan how authorized staff will confirm that email continues to work after the website change. Distinguish ordinary business communication from clearly agreed test messages. Record the person responsible for resolving a failure and the previous working settings needed for recovery. Do not cancel the old email service until an intentional migration, if any, has been completed and verified.
Apply this to your business
Write down the current situation, the decision you need to make and the person who can confirm the facts. North Front Digital can discuss a scoped review through our relevant service overview. When you request a quote, include your website address if you have one and the customer task you want to improve. Deliverables, access, timing and price are confirmed in writing before work begins.
