Collect Facts for a Useful Shipping Page

Build a shipping-page brief from verified fulfillment facts, separating preparation time, transit estimates, regions and exceptions.

Collect facts before writing a promise

A shipping page needs decisions from the people who fulfill orders. List destinations served, excluded destinations, carriers actually used, handling time, transit information, charges and any product-specific limits. Mark each fact confirmed, awaiting confirmation or not applicable. Do not turn an unanswered question into free shipping, worldwide delivery or a guaranteed arrival date. This is a content collection worksheet, not a shipping policy for your store.

Separate two parts of the timeline

Use one worksheet row for order preparation and another for carrier transit. A fictional example can say preparation time: owner to confirm; transit estimate: carrier and route to confirm; cutoff: owner to confirm. That unfinished row is more useful than an invented two-day promise because it identifies the exact dependency preventing publication. Record whether time periods mean business days or calendar days.

Check one real order scenario

Choose a destination the business actually serves and a real product class. Compare the proposed shipping-page description with the checkout calculation and fulfillment process. Repeat for a destination outside the service area. The customer should not discover a contradiction only after entering their address. Google’s Merchant Center product-data specification is a reference when product listings also contain shipping data.

Keep ownership visible

Add a content owner, effective date, supporting source and review trigger to the brief. A carrier change, new product size or new fulfillment location can invalidate old wording. Link customers to the approved details from relevant product and checkout screens, and avoid duplicating policy text in several places that can drift apart. Bring the confirmed worksheet to a store planning discussion; operational and legal terms remain the merchant’s decisions.
