Prepare Return Policy Facts for Your Store
Hand off verified return-policy decisions with clear exceptions and ownership instead of copying another store’s terms.
Gather decisions rather than boilerplate
Return information should describe the actual business process. Ask which products are eligible, what condition is required, when a request can be made, who pays shipping, how a customer starts the process and what happens after inspection. The owner must approve these decisions and obtain appropriate legal review. This guide does not supply a return window, refund promise or jurisdiction-specific rule for your business.
Use an exception worksheet
For a fictional store, create rows for standard items, customized items and damaged-on-arrival reports. Leave eligibility, deadline, evidence requested and resolution blank until the responsible person confirms them. That format reveals where one broad sentence would hide important differences. Do not assume a customized item is nonreturnable or that every damaged-item claim receives the same outcome; record the approved answer.
Match the website and listing settings
After approval, compare the public policy, product-page references, checkout links and any Merchant Center return settings. Google’s return-data documentation explains the fields used in its system. Those fields should represent an existing approved policy, not become the source from which the website invents one. Keep exceptions visible where they apply.
Review the customer handoff
Trace a sample request from the policy link to the contact method and responsible inbox or system. Confirm what acknowledgement means and who makes the decision. Record the effective date, policy owner and where older approved versions are retained. Revisit the content when fulfillment, product categories or supported markets change. North Front Digital can help scope the website implementation through a project inquiry, using the business’s approved terms and process.
